democracy trap and Nepal

A professor from China talked about this, from China! He's referring to what is happening in Egypt today. But he equates the turmoil with disparity with economic, among others, factor. Sure he's a professor, but don't he heard about Nepal? Until recently, it is country with monarchy system. Then they shifted to a full fledged democracy, but with the economy still not as strong as the west. Still there is nothing like Egypt.

The question here is, the elected leader is not sanctioned by the powerful one. This leader is a commoner in the circle of leaders. I wonder why on earth did this professor get the idea. Unless, I supposed, even China is now in the same league with the powerful one. Of course.

democracy of the people, by the people, for the people?

what happened in Egypt today really tells about democracy. Government in democracy is not about 'of the people, by the people, for the people (Abraham Lincoln, 1863). The man threw those words during war, for heaven sake. Today, it is not about rule of law, people respecting law and other rhetoric words that come out from the powerful one (I'm also looking at you, Uncle Sam). Democracy today means 'electing leader by means of arm who is endorsed by some other powerful one through the the voting process'. The consequence is simple, for those elected leaders but unwanted by the powerful one, remove them by arm, redo the orchestrated election and back the newly elected leaders using arm. Truly world is govern by certain powerful one.
