rainbow
I watched this double rainbow with my kids. when I was a kid, we were afraid to point at rainbow. it was because, according to old folks, one might lose his finger if he point to the rainbow. I wonder why did the story surface?

development
this is a view from a highway in my place. about 30 years ago, there was no highway. the area was a jungle. I wonder what will happen in the next 30 year to the scenery?

cleanliness
last week we went to this neighbouring country. the picture above is one of its market or bazaar. interestingly, even though the space is quite pack, but the cleanliness is good (compared to our place). we should learn something here. "officials, you don't need to go to Switzerland or UK to learn about cleanliness, just go here and learn. beside their climate and environment is comparable to us. don't waste the tax payers' money".

Japan, 'nuclear energy free' society
so finally the Japanese revealed its policy on nuclear energy - 'will reduce Japan's reliance on nuclear power, aiming at creating a society that will not rely on atomic power generation'. and the Japan prime minister has even promised to challenge the 'conventional belief' that nuclear energy is safe. but so far I've yet to see how are they going to just do that. I believe I've wrote on this last time. come on Japanese, show the world how will you do it so that the rest of us can learn.

money and the hotter earth
my mechanic complaint to me that everything is pricey today. I said I agreed and even rain is somehow reluctant to getting 'down'. it is hotter today than it was time. the mechanic then blamed on our hunger for cutting trees and develop. "they all thinking about money", he said. again and again I stumble upon human who demonised money. yet we still after it. and never feel enough of it.

Somalia
years ago my father used to show us pictures in newspaper showing hungry and abandoned children in Africa. I cannot recall whether the picture was taken in Somalia which today faced a serious humanitarian crisis - famine. and I believe most of us has seen Kevin Carter's picture of a starving toddler in Sudan. the picture won him a Pulitzer Prize. but like most of us, he finally realised that money is evil and the society is corrupted.
to see the picture, search on the net.

Japan, nuclear free nation
so the PM of Japan has finally spoken on the future of nuclear power plant. but does it translated into the government policy? I really want to see what this advanced nation has in store to replace one-third of her electricity energy source. energy efficiency society? natural energy resource?
according to Wikipedia, Japan is using 868 W/ person. that is less than Finland (almost 2000), Norway (almost 3000) and Iceland (slightly more than 3000) (of course cold countries). Japan's figure is lower than Qatar and Kuwait (more than 1700 and 1500 respectively) (ok, small, hot energy-hunger countries). and the figure lower than Singapore (947) but is slightly more than Brunei (801). other G7 countries electricity energy consumption stands as follows: France (851), German (822), Italy(603), UK(667), US (1460) , Canada (1910). Wow, Italy and UK are low at less than 700.
so Japan, show your colour.

integrity
at the time I took this picture, I was lack of problem. everything was good that I felt I was blessed. but it was not. actually it was now with all the problems in the world are on my shoulder, I started to understand humanity. which is 'the hell with integrity'.

Japan, nuclear waste and sunflower
so they are planning to plant as much sunflower as they can. it's a symbolic, they said. after renouncing 'live by principle' axiom, I believe what we should do is more effort and thinking to minimise what ever risk we face. why symbolic? this kind of thing reminds me to my previous boss who always said he's talking in symbolic and expecting people to understand. what the meaning of that? could he just got straight to the point instead of 'symbolism' which people may not understand due to 'poor or stupid symbolism'.

uk nuclear power plants sites
ok now the UK has named their nuclear power plants site. Japan is still studying, I guess, since there is no news about their fuel strategy. as my country, still no news.

environment V
notice the white shade on the hill edge? it is sort of greenhouse for plants. the last time I was here, the place was still green. now it's white and green. yeah, sure. people need money to buy food. they can't eat the trees, aren't they?

environment IV
this picturesque small water fall is no place for picnic or swim. despite remotely located from the development of human being, the view is just sick. there were trash all long the banks of the river. it's very weird. the river originated deep in the forest located more than 50 km from cities. to reach there one need to drive a zig-zag trunk road, 1.5 km above sea level. yes, there are small town near to this place, may be 2 km away. but the town is so small that I believe that the population is small. I believe that the trash were transported here far from this place. I even found thrash neatly wrapped in plastic bags but left by the river bank.

environment III
this is a view from top of isolated mountain 1 km towards low land. two decades ago there were only a handful of buildings. but today I can see that they can't even stop the construction of buildings. perhaps they'll never do. I don't see the point of having barren or landscaped highland when my intention to go to such places is to see the nature in its 'natural' condition.
yes, I'm among those who support nuclear for electricity. but there must be places where we developed them and then places where we can have breath of fresh air. yet the people around this pristine areas longed for development (or in other words it is actually money). for thousands of years we have been plundering this earth for wealth. is it all that we need?

this is a village my family & I went last week end. I got to know that this is a traditional village. so I suggest the view here, except the tarmac, must has been here centuries ago. it's all natural, in colour and the life.

nuclear fuel Japan - underestimate the risk
so there was report from United Nation saying that Japan has underestimate the risk of hazard by tsunami to nuclear power station. however the praised the Japanese response as 'exemplary'.
I hope I can learn that 'exemplary' steps. such an effort towards such a serious event can be easily adopted into solving other lesser problem. and about for the last one or two days senior citizen of Japan are volunteering themselves in fighting the radiation. they gave their reason but saying their mission is no 'kamikaze'. kamikaze, according to them is a weird strategy where 'people go and never comeback'. but their effort is 'go and will come back'.
I should go to Japan, work there and learn.

electricity fuel, my country
after weeks of speculation, our country's electricity tariff is finally increased. the reason: increase in global fossil fuel price. another reason: previous tariff is not good enough to promote renewable energy development!
and I also noticed that there will be 1% surcharge on certain class of consumer. the statement by the national electricity company is as follow:
and I also noticed that there will be 1% surcharge on certain class of consumer. the statement by the national electricity company is as follow:
'In line with the Renewable Energy (RE) Act which was passed in April 2011, the Government will impose 1% as Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) for RE Fund, effective 1st September 2011. The fund will be utilised for promotion and development of RE projects and initiatives and will be managed by Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA)'
so are we going to see a leap in renewable energy in my country? it's going to be excited development, in the coming months. I hope.

nuclear fuel Germany
so Germany is going to phase out all of their nuclear plants. may be it's political decision, but I really want to see how are they going to fill in the about quarter of their energy source. I read about the possibility of going efficient may contribute to 10% reduction of electricity usage.
this is very excited. as an electrical engineer I really want to see how this advanced country overcome the 'opportunity'. last week, the UK announced that they will stick to nuclear power plant. this week Germans is doing the opposite. I'm still waiting announcement from the Japanese government.
once I went for a course on electricity. the speaker said "no one need electricity. you can get electrocuted. if anyone can figure a different way to light a bulb, electricity is history". I don't know whether the quote is worth but it's a challenge.
